Fixed blades are important tools to have whether you are hiking, hunting, camping or just plain preparing.  Most good fixed blades can be used for a variety of chores from chopping wood to chopping food.  Size and shape are a matter of personal preference and task at hand.  I like a Timberline in my boot and a light weight Kukri Machete close by, with a good 7 inches of steel snug in a custom sheath by ArmoralLeather hanging from my belt.
