Maxpedition Mongo S-Type Review 1
As with all other Maxpedition products, the quality is excellent. The new Mongo goes a step beyond my Jumbo Versipack in the ability to add additional items. This pack has numerous pockets for additional gear, but also they allow for a variety of packing options.
In the first picture here you see the Mongo packed as my three day BOB (bug out bag). I put this together in about 5 minutes utilizing items from my previous BOB, but I was also able to add some additional items. Most notable additions were:
One change of clothing: t-shirt, boxers, wool socks and a pair of pants.
3 day food supply
a Katadyn hiker pro.
There is also an attached pocket on the strap for your cell phone or other electronic device with a side release buckle closer.
Showing the back: note the included waist strap. The waist strap tucks away into an included pocket when not in use. Straps are sturdy and comfortable; waist strap helps secure the load.
Showing contents: I will not go into detail since we all have our own ideas on contents but this gives you a rough Idea of what I fit into mine.
Note: that is a 7 1/2 inch barrel Single action that was put into the back pocket. No fear in needing a compact pistol with this bag. This bag took all the contents shown here and had space for more.
If carefully packed, this bag is excellent for a Maxi kit and then some. Total weight as shown tipped the scales slightly over 20lbs., including water and weapon.
A couple pictures some of the pockets.
First showing the top lid pockets interior. Plenty of room for an extended fire
kit.
Second shows the pockets under the front flap.
This is one great bag, plenty of room.
Pros: Quality, storage space and numerous pockets. Price point is good also.
Concern: Number of pockets and size could lead to over packing and weight issues. Use caution and common sense when loading.
Further thoughts, this bag will make an excellent weekend bag for a quick get out of town with essential and some survival items also included.
I also plan to take it out for a day hike to test the ride and use, just have to get a nice day so stay tuned for further installments.Review by fishbait.
